Dordogne Valley Tours
A unique glimpse of the French lifestyle

Custom Dordogne Valley Tours -If you have a group of 4-6 adults, we can design a tour for you with a duration of 6-8 days during the months of September, October or early November 2007, and mid April, May, September & October 2008.

These tours focus on the history, cuisine and sights of this beautiful region of SW France.  Some of the sights and activities that are included in the September 2007 tour are:

  • Visit a prehistoric cave, the Grotte de Font de Gaume. This is one of only a few caves in France that still allow visitors to view the actual drawings, rather than replicas.
  • Enjoy the large Saturday market that fills the medieval section of Sarlat
  • Tour Castelnaud, a medieval hillside fortress with great views of the Dordogne River valley from its' ramparts. The castle also contains a medieval armament museum.
  • Stroll the spectacular chateau and gardens of Hautefort, the setting for the royal castle in the movie "Ever After".
  • Visit the underground river in the caverns of the Gouffre de Padirac, and see spectacular limestone formations.
  • Explore Rocamadour, a town built into the side of a cliff. This has been a pilgrimage site for centuries.
  • Take a one hour cruise down the Dordogne River, viewing several castles and villages along the way.
  • Visit the wine town of St. Emilion, famous for its wines and the underground church carved from rock.

Depending on your group's interests, visits are also possible to other castles  in the area, additional prehistoric sights, wineries, a walnut oil mill, and more..
